Solano County Weed Management Area

Solano Resource Conservation District is an active member of the Solano County Weed Management Area (WMA).  The Solano County WMA is working group comprised of representatives from the following organizations, all of whom are dedicated to reducing invasive weed populations in Solano County:

• Solano Resource Conservation District
• University of California, Davis
• Natural Resources Conservation Service
• Dixon Resource Conservation District
• Department of Agriculture
• Solano Land Trust
• Local Reclamation Districts
• CALTRANS
• Syar Industries
• And many others!

The Solano County WMA previously secured funding that resulted in the mapping of invasive weeds across more than 400,000 acres within Solano County.  During that process the Solano County WMA identified the following weeds for priority control efforts:

• Arundo donax
• Red sesbania
• Yellow starthistle
• Purple starthistle
• Artichoke thistle
• Perennial pepperweed

The Solano County WMA recently received grant funding to eradicate isolated populations of Arundo donax and Red sesbania within Cache Slough and the Sacramento River.  If you are interested in joining the Solano County WMA or assisting with our ongoing weed-mapping and control efforts please contact Jodie Salz at (707) 678-1655 x 109.
