Migratory Bird Initiative
Funded by a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) California State Office, the Dixon and Solano RCD Migratory Bird Initiative (MBI) is a partnership between Dixon and Solano Resource Conservation Districts (DRCD and Solano RCD) aimed to facilitate the restoration and protection of sensitive habitat for migratory birds in focused areas of Solano County and the Lower Yolo Bypass in Yolo County (the northwest corner of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta).
Both Solano RCD and DRCD have a history of partnering with landowners and NRCS to successfully implement NRCS programs that install innovative and time tested conservation practices on the ground. MBI funding provides additional support and coordination between NRCS staff, SRCD and DRCD staff. MBI staff reach out to private landowners in target areas, create conceptual habitat improvement plans for the target areas, and create habitat plans on individual properties that tier from the area conceptual plans.
The primary focus of the program is to address resource concerns by matching private landowners? goals and conservation interests to appropriate NRCS programs such as: the Wetland Reserve Program (WRP), Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP), and Conservation Cooperative Partnership Initiative (CCPI) to implement the individual habitat plans.
Through this program, increased enrollment in NRCS programs and focused conservation planning will result in increased acres of wetland, riparian and other wildlife corridor habitat for migratory species of the Pacific Flyway.
